I love the countryside, and the sense of freedom and the sense of achievement completing a walk or climb gives. I tried to capture this in song.
lyrics
Those towering hills are calling me
The need to be free
So I’m climbing this mountain trail in the driving rain
The trees dance wildly in the gale which shrieks like it’s in pain
It blasts straight through, my body’s chilled
In spite of all I feel fulfilled
This wilderness beguiling me,
The need to be free
The climb is getting harder now cold rain turns into sleet
Ice crystals on my frosted brow, I’ve reached four thousand feet
Still trudging on, through drifted snow
Two hundred steps at most to go
It’s stubbornness sustaining me
The need to be free
I see the cairn, the summit nears the storm cloud’s nearly passed
The wind abates and sun appears view snow topped hills at last
Their beauty stuns, ‘ twas worth the pain
The reason I’ll come back again
Brief sovereignty over all I see
The need to be free
Free as that cold North East Wind
