Most day's I walk by the River Tweed, one of Scotland's best known salmon rivers, and every day I see the real salmon fishers, the graceful grey heron. I have never got close to one, without being nervous, they seem to "drift away" gracefully.
lyrics
The Grey Cloaked Assassin
Still as a statue knee deep in cold water
The murderer with the cold staring eyes
Motionless soundless the grey cloaked assassin
Patiently waits for his victim to rise
What right do I have to be in your dominion
Trespassing this killing zone every day
You mean me no harm but I cannot ignore you
When I try to get close you just drift away
Lurking in the shade
Waiting for a kill
Needing to survive
The silver backed salmon are swimming upriver
They return here to spawn so their species can thrive
Both killer and victim are programmed by nature
And one has to die so the other survives
Still as a statue knee deep in cold waters
Stands the grey heron with cold staring eyes
Motionless soundless that grey cloaked assassin
Patiently waits for the salmon to rise
