A friend of mine wrote a guitar instrumental, to complex to sing and in the wrong key for me. I modified and simplified it and put words to it.
lyrics
My darling Claire, you’re no longer here
Although you’ve gone so far away
I miss your laugh I miss your smile,
I miss you more each passing day
Though we are now so far apart
You are always in my heart
The only time I see your face is when I’m dreaming
There was no time to say goodbye
One moment here and then you’d gone
Leaving me a vacant space
My world now empty and forlorn
I think about you every day
And there is no other way
I can get to see your smile except by dreaming
Though I lie awake some nights
Next day I still rise up at dawn
Facing the world with actor’s smile
Knowing that l must go on
Life has no meaning without you
For it has torn my heart in two
To know I’ll only hear you laugh when I am dreaming
My darling Claire you are still mine
Though you’re in some far off land
Since you were wrenched away from me
For reasons I don’t understand
Why you’ve gone I do not know
And although I dearly love you so
If I think you’ll come back home I’m only dreaming
For I’ll never touch your hand except when dreaming
The only time I’ll hold you close is when I’m dreaming
For you were taken from this world while I was dreaming
